I don't buy your argument. Looking at both videos, the wake from the Andy Gil initially doesn't look like it was under full power. Yet the Shonan Maru turns and heads straight for the speed boat. The turn of the whaler is obvious in both videos. Just before collision, the Ady Gil accelerates. You can see the wake suddenly increase.
Giving the pilot the benefit of the doubt, I would guess he only realised the whalers were going to ram, and made a knee-jerk decision to accelerate out of the way, but far too late. Even if that wasn't the thought processes, the whalers look more in the wrong than the others.
